How To Crochet a Cocoon for Baby

Materials Needed:
Yarn: Bulky #5 Bernat Velvet
Hook: K/6.5

ST: Stitch
CH: Chain
DC: Double Crochet
HDC: Half Double Crochet
FPDC: Front Post Double Crochet
BPDC: Back Post Double Crochet
HDC2Tog: Half Double Crochet Two Together

Pattern Instructions: ch2 does not count as the first stitch

Size Newborn to 3 months

Rnd 1:  12dc into magic ring.

Rnd 2: ch2, 2dc in each sp around. (24dc)

Rnd 3: ch2, 2dc in the first sp, 1dc in next, rpt around. (36dc)

Rnd 4: ch2, 2dc in the first sp, 1dc in the next two sps, rpt around. (48dc)

Rnd 5: ch2, 2dc in the first sp, 1dc in the next three sps, rpt around. (60dc)

Rnd 6: ch2, dc around. (60dc)

Rnd 7-37: ch2, fpdc, bpdc around, cast off.

Now are going to work in rows

For this part of the pattern,  I left 15 sts unworked for the opening of the hood. Refer to the video to see how.  I worked 45 fpdc and bpdc for the first row.

Row 1: ch2, fpdc, bpdc 45 sps, turn.

Row 2: ch2, hdc in first sp, hdc2tog, hdc in next 39 sps, hdc2tog, hdc in last sp, turn. (43HDC)

Row 3: ch2, hdc in first sp, hdc2tog, hdc in next 37 sps, hdc2tog, hdc in last sp, turn. (41HDC)

Row 4: ch2, hdc in first sp, hdc2tog, hdc in next 35 sps, hdc2tog, hdc in last sp, turn. (39HDC)

Row 5: ch2, hdc in first sp, hdc2tog, hdc in next 33 sps, hdc2tog, hdc in last sp, turn. (37HDC)

Row 6: ch2, hdc in first sp, hdc2tog, hdc in next 31 sps, hdc2tog, hdc in last sp, turn. (35HDC)
